Liam and Moses love making music. The two regularly have jam sessions—Liam on the trumpet and Moses on the clarinet—that they get so into that they lose track of time. Before they know it, five hours have passed! But these two aren’t school pals starting a garage band. Moses is Liam’s Big Brother!

Last year, 13-year-old Liam told Big Brothers Big Sisters he was looking for a Big who is patient, accepting, and compassionate. He wanted someone who not only understood his Cerebral Palsy diagnosis, but who wouldn’t let that get in the way of having a great time together. Liam found his perfect match in Moses.

Moses exhibits all the qualities Liam wanted in a Big Brother, and they share similar interests, like music. When they first met, Liam struggled to go outside his comfort zone, often preferring to enjoy activities at home.

“Early on, I noticed how apprehensive Liam can be when it comes to going somewhere unfamiliar,” Moses said.

Moses shared that due to Liam’s mobility barriers, he often felt too anxious to venture out into the world.

“Understandably, he is a big homebody, so I made it my goal to expose him to more urban settings and show him what is out there,” Moses said.

Liam and Moses meet every other week consistently, and have enjoyed theater performances, concerts, sporting events, the Japanese gardens, and a wealth of other outings that Liam may not have experienced if not for the encouragement of his Big.

Liam’s mother, Jessica, expressed sincere appreciation for Moses, saying “He does such a great job finding activities that are accessible for Liam, but which still get him out of his comfort zone and the house!”

Jessica and Moses have both noticed that Liam’s confidence has skyrocketed in the 16 months since he met Moses. They’re looking forward to seeing what else Liam will accomplish with Moses’s support, as both Liam and Moses agree that their friendship will undoubtedly last a lifetime.
