Big Brothers Big Sisters Announces Oregon’s Big Brother of the Year

Comcast’s Beyond School Walls volunteer Randall Rene named Big Brother of the Year for Oregon

Portland, Or – June 20, 2018  BBBS Columbia Northwest has recognized Randall Rene, a Comcast employee who lives in King City, as the Big Brother of the Year representing the state of Oregon   Each year, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America honors outstanding volunteers from across the country in the Big of the Year program. Local agencies are tasked with choosing exemplary individuals from their ranks of volunteers; Big Brothers and Big Sisters who demonstrate dedication to this program and the mission of the organization, as well as care for their ”Littles.”

Randall Rene is no stranger to the challenges faced by at-risk youth. His childhood was marked by addiction, abuse, and poverty. By his own account, his childhood was a “nightmarish rollercoaster” at home. However, outside of the home, he had teachers, coaches, and mentors looking out for him. This is why Randall Rene gives back today.

Rene knows that the special relationships he had with caring and stable adults is why he is where he is today. He wants the same successes for his Little Brother, Henry.  Rene’s dedication to Henry is clear. “I listen to him twice as much as I speak to him. I am consistent. I keep my word,” says Rene. Rene is providing Henry with the stability and love that children need to thrive.

Rene recently completed an MBA while working in engineering for Comcast.  His Little Brother Henry attended his graduation at George Fox University.   Rene previously served 14 years as a reserve officer with the Hillsboro Police Department

Rene was partnered with his Little Brother, Henry through the “Beyond School Walls” program, designed to connect at-risk youth to opportunities to access and learn about the corporate environment. Children are brought to a corporate work site twice per month to meet with their Big and participate in curriculum designed to encourage personal growth and development of life skills. Henry and Rene participate in the Beyond School Walls program at Comcast Oregon & SW Washington, a BSW partner since 2011.
