Yamilet Alas

Big Futures Partnership Manager

Born and raised in Southern California, Yamilet made her way to Northern California for her Bachelors Degree in Critical Race, Gender and Sexuality Studies at Humboldt State University where she was able to explore how institutional and systemic systems of oppression frame and inform the lives of marginalized people.  She made her way to Oregon via her Master’s Degree from Oregon State University, where she further explored the intersections of Race, Class, Gender and Identity.  Her work in social justice led her to a career in education, where she taught first grade in Woodburn, Oregon and in Beaverton for over 5 years.

Feeling burnt out and discouraged by the current education system, Yamilet sought out a career that would lend to her passion for social justice and education while elevating youth.  This brought her to BBBSCNW.  As the Big Futures Partnership Manager, Yamilet is able to support community partnerships while promoting BBBS’s mission and vision throughout the community.

Yamilet enjoys music, reading and supporting the Portland Thorns!
